What is Sensory Activities?

Sensory Activities are stimulates our sense, such as touch, sight, smell , hearing , and taste. 
These activities engage children senses .In sensory play, children use different senses, such as touching, seeing, hearing, tasting, and feeling. It enhances their brain development and thinking and gives them opportunities for new experiences using different materials, such as sweet, salty, soft, or cold.

Why is it beneficial for children?

Sensory play is extremely beneficial for children, as it improves their motor, verbal, and sensory training. This stabilizes the child's attention and increases their self-identity. An example of sensory play might be playing with soil,  

 when the child touches the soil, it feels its smell, softness, and warmth. So such play increases the sensory training of the child and also improves their thinking.

During sensory-stimulating play, children enrich their experiences using different materials and tools. They get opportunities to do various activities like making clay balls, sailing paper boats in water, hand painting, etc. Such play improves children's thinking, creativity, and sensory training, which is what experts suggest these activities for children.

Hearing Stimulation:

Shake ! Shake! 


Firstly, take some empty plastic bottles and fill them with different items such as dry rice, beads, grains, or pebbles. Then tape their lid tightly so that children can not open it , and there will be no risk of taking anything in the mouth.


Now ask your kids to shake it, you will see they happy and enjoy it 

and together, you can hum something and compose any rymes or song tunes with these bottles. Your kids will be amazed to learn how different objects make different sounds.


It will be a different experience for your children.

Touch and Feel Stimulation:

Tactile Treasure Hunt: You can hide different textured objects around a room, or you can also do it outdoors if you have space, choose different types of texture, like soft fabric, rough sandpaper, smooth stones, etc. Now, children have to find and close their eyes and feel each object, describing its texture. 

This activity will help develop a sense of touch in children

For taste stimulation, you can provide a variety of foods to experience different tastes, like sweet, bitter, salty, and sour. Then let children taste each food.


Ask children to describe the taste, then talk about them, and different food tastes. Moreover you can tell children different vegetables and fruit tastes.

Sense of Sight:

You can create a game with identical matching pictures and then ask children to find identical pictures. Additionally, you can provide different clour objects and ask children to sort them by colour or shape.


Note: This activity is a great way to develop children's skills of observation.

Sense of Smell:


Smell it and gasses!


You can play a game of sense of smell.


You have to keep some common food items on a different bowl and blindfold your child. Now, ask your children to identify each item just by smell.


When children recognize food by smell, show them and tell more about the smell of food .as you place each item under their nose.
