Bilateral Brain Boost Activities

Fun, Learning, and Brain Development All in One!

Early childhood is a powerful time to build the brain! Kids love to move, touch, and explore — and this is exactly how they learn best. That’s why bilateral brain boost activities are a fantastic way to support your child’s fine motor development, coordination, and early learning skills through fun, hands-on tasks.

In this post, I’m excited to share creative bilateral activities that are not only fun but also designed to activate both sides of the brain. These exercises help kids think, move, and learn at the same time!

What Are Bilateral Activities?

Bilateral activities involve using both sides of the body in a coordinated way. For example:

  • Using both hands to match colors

  • Crossing the midline (reaching across the body)

  • Touching colored targets with one hand while stabilizing with the other

These types of activities help strengthen brain connections, improve hand-eye coordination, and support concentration. They are often used in classrooms, occupational therapy, and early learning programs.

Color Matching with Both Hands

One of our favorite bilateral brain boost printable includes:

  • Colored handprints on one side

  • Color dots on the opposite side in a wavy "S" shape

  • Kids must match colors using both hands at the same time!

This fun printable supports:
 Color recognition
 Left-right coordination
Visual tracking and attention
 Fine motor development

Why Are Bilateral Activities Important?

These activities aren’t just fun—they help children:

  • Develop concentration and focus

  • Build coordination between the brain and body

  • Strengthen memory and problem-solving

  • Support reading and writing readiness

  • Improve fine motor control for tasks like buttoning, cutting, or writing

Whether you're a parent, teacher, or therapist, using these printable activities can help children build foundational skills through play.

These add more excitement to the activities and help children stay engaged longer. Explore More Pintables from My Blog
